  • You can tell it’s Spring when….

….the birds are queuing for a bath – this female Blackbird was having a lovely time! To start with, she sat in the bird bath like it was a nest, before starting to splash the water over her back.   #staywild

  • There’s Still Snow About

Just one little photo for today – an arty view of the snow clinging to the top of a tree in the garden.   #staywild

  • Almost Spring…. in the snow?!

The “Beast from the East” made its presence known again today, with more snow! It certainly confused the finches, and gave the daffodils a bit of a shock too. #staywild

  • Chaffinches

Some birds can handle bird feeders, others tend to struggle…. and this Chaffinch is definitely on the “struggling” level. He did manage to get some seed out, but there was a lot of flapping involved, as he didn’t seem able to actually land comfortably on the perch to get some food before flying back to…

  • Goldfinches

I know some people will look for any excuse to not remove the seed heads from a plant, but the sight of some Goldfinches happily raiding the plant for the seeds is a valid reason for me!   #staywild

  • When the snow lingers on the hill….

When the snow lingers on the hills, there’s more snow to come ….or at least that’s what my Great Gran used to say. We’ll see if that holds true, as the snow is definitely lingering on the hills! #staywild

  • Duck Eggs

Ok, so it’s not real duck eggs (and not a real duck either), but the way the snow piled up certainly has an egg-like appearance. #staywild

  • Fieldfares

The Beast from the East was determined to cause havoc with the temperature – they were forecasting a windchill of -6C during the day today. So it probably wasn’t any surprise to see so many Fieldfares feasting on berries (although I’ve only preivously seen them tucking into apples in the garden).     #staywild

  • More snow?!

We had more snow overnight, and although it stopped during the morning, the forecast was for snow from about lunchtime. Instead of steps in the garden, it looks like we have a very steep slope heading up to the grass! More finches and blackbirds have been flocking to the nearby feeders again – there was…

  • Happy Meteorological Spring!

Today is the start of Meteorological Spring…. so of course we have some perfectly spring-like weather here today. Yes, that’s right, it was snowing most of the day! The strong winds blew the snow off the road at this point, even creating a mini snow drift on the junction. Ignore the reflection of the street…
