Not the phrase I was expecting to write, as every time the Aurora Borealis had been strong enough to view here previously, it was either cloudy, I’d missed hearing about it until afterwards, or it just wasn’t visible at all!
But last night I had the camera set up ready (indoors – I didn’t want to be outside for hours!), in the hope I might get lucky.

The Aurora wasn’t actually visible by eye – it just looked slightly cloudy on the horizon (where you can see the purple colour on the photo above), and it just looked a bit lighter above the tree.
However, when you look at the screen on the camera, you could make out the green – and it certainly came out in the photos!

A 10 second exposure means you get the light trail effect from a passing plane, which complimented the Aurora. I wonder if the passengers on the plane were able to see the Northern Lights?

Looking at the Aurora forecast websites, there seems to be a chance of seeing it again tonight (although maybe not quite so intense), providing there’s no cloud cover.
